Buffalo Blitz
South Dakota’s brand is indisputably retro, so when coming up with this year’s rich media experience we wanted to have a little 8-bit fun. Our metric here was engagement time, so we wanted to come up with something that would grab the user’s attention and keep them on the ad as long as possible. So we came up with a game based on 8-bit scrollers, one of the most addicting types of old arcade-style games. And who better to be our hero than the noble buffalo. The game takes our buffalo through a few of South Dakota’s favorite attractions—from the famous Mount Rushmore to the not-so-famous but equally impressive Corn Palace. I illustrated the game to reflect the South Dakota brand but also have that sweet vintage video game feel. In the end, it was addicting enough that even the client couldn’t stop playing.
